Blood/Juice Groove in Cutting Board

Post by WaltS »

I need to put a blood groove around the inside perimeter of a cutting board. I want it to be 3/8" wide by 3/8" deep, rounded from side to side like a bowl (not just straight sides with a rounded bottom), and with rounded corners. I want to use a 1/4" ball nose, which I have. At first it sounded easy, but now that I think about it not so sure where to start? Fluting toolpath came to mind, but not sure how to get curved sides. Moulding toolpath is an other option, but that may be over doing things. Or would it just be eaiser to buy a 3/8" ball nose and be done with it? Not seeing the need down the road too often for a 3/8" ball nose though with what I normally do. This is a one off job and would not pay for a new bit.

I just use a .5 reg router core bit and sand the sides a little, Ive made hundreds of cutting boards with drip rail.

Thanks for the suggestion. Was trying to use something I had but maybe buying a core bit would make it a LOT easier.

Core bits are cheap.

Run a .5 ball nose 3/8 deep. you may be close to what you want or need.
