Project for customer

Post by blmac5 »

I have V-Carve Pro v9 and would like to know if the watch that is pictured is something I could do or would I need to upgrade to Aspire.
I am mainly concerned with the band for the watch. I would cut the profile for one side of the band, then flip the piece and do the other side.
The watch body and the buckle would be fairly simple. I would gladly pay if someone could create a file for this as it could possibly be an order
for his company employees if he likes it.

You would cut the band just like it would be done on either a scroll saw or band saw...on it's side.
I've made a few. It's not a 3D toolpath.

I had considered that, but not sure the piece would stand up to the torque and stress of the
bit while cutting. I was thinking more in line of using the fluting setup and do one side, flip
and then do the other side, but not sure on how to set that up or if it's even possible to do.

I was given a wooden band wrist watch for a present last year. I think I got about 30-minutes out of it before it broke. They look good but they don't have a very long life expectancy.

I think steam bending straight grained or quarter-sawn wood would be the only way to make a watch band durable enough to survive daily use, there are too many variables with wood grain to predictably machine it without producing a weak spot in the grain.

After you steam bend the blanks, then consider machining it on jigs.

This is for a desk clock or to hang on the wall, not something that's wearable, although I have seen ones that are wearable made from wood, but don't know
how durable they are.
