Mark,

That looks great. Hope to see a picture of the finished item when Michael and you complete your collaborated efforts. I know of a music teacher across the road from me that was once a nun and plays at all types of church events; some happy, some not. She is a very special lady and would love something like this.

Good luck on your efforts,

Paul

I will gladly share whatever I can. I get more enjoyment on projects like this. I wish there were more hours in a day to do all I have planed.

This is a great forum.

Hi Mark,

I finished the corrected music layout. Made it so it still lines up with the lyric syllables and still just three staves.

I merged all the musical elements for ease of v-carving/engraving toolpathing. I emailed you the file about an hour ago.

Wow Michael did an amazing job fixing the music.

Michael, would you post the file for the rest of us to use? Please.

Hi Mike,

Yes, I'll be happy to. This file is just the music and lyrics. I think Mark might be sharing his complete file later (with piano, etc.).

I toolpathed the music as a simple v-carve with a 60 deg. V-bit. Start Depth set at 0.01" and Flat Depth set at 0.12" (equals total deepest carve area will be 0.13"). You can play/experiment with the depth settings and bit choice as you wish. I found increasing the Start Depth to 0.02" still gives a nice (undistorted) result and makes everything a little bolder, which could be desirable. The lyrics are single-line fonts, so they would be Profile On at a depth of your choosing. Title elements can be a v-carve with settings of your choice.

I would run the v-carve toolpath twice to clean up the grooves and all but eliminate any need for manual clean-up. (I don't set the second run any deeper - I just run the exact same toolpath twice. Some prefer otherwise, but I haven't witnessed much difference one way or the other.)

I’m not going to run my project for awhile due to some medical issues but I wanted to thank Michael T. for helping me complete the sheet music portion of the project. I know nothing about music except that I like to listen to it. I missed Michael’s concert a few years ago when he was here in Arizona with his band but with the talent we know he has here on the forum I’m sure it was a good one.

I’m glad Michael posted the file so anyone can use it.

I will post my finished project when it’s totally complete but here's the piano and the cross I'm going to use.

This is an amazing forum, so many people here to help when you need it.

Michael,

Awhile back I saw a billboard here in Tucson featuring a group that was playing at one of the casinos. One of the names mentioned was someone with your name. Could that someone be you?

Hi Steve,

Not me. I've played at Country Clubs and such, but not a casino!

Hi All,
Thanks for correcting the music, I did the first one that Mark liked and I sent him the file. I do not know if he used the tool bits I used but on my carving you can see different notes. I had to use .0312 ball nose to get the look I liked and only carved .03 deep on some of the parts. I was using a Shark Pro which is about 8 years old.
Not a ridged machine. And as you guessed I am not a song writer but very much enjoy music. I will correct the flag direction on my copy and try again.
Dan
