Pocket troubles

Post by P.Passuello »

I have used VCarve Pro for many years and recently upgraded from 6.5 to 8.5.
For some reason I cannot get the Last pass to work when using Raster pocketing.
When pocketing I select raster and Profile last pass. I cannot select climb or conventional and when I select the profile pass as last it does not create one.
When I go back into the pocket toolpath the Pass profile is missing.
No matter what I do I cannot get it to work.

I have done a fresh install of windows 10 and installed 6.5 and 8.5
Again 6.5 works fine but I can't get the pocket to work in 8.5

If I open a file with a pocket created in VCarve Pro 6.5 the last pass and machining direction works but if I try to add another pocket it won't work.
I'm sure I am missing something simple but for the life of me I don't know what it is.

What am I doing wrong?

I have uploaded a couple of screen shots and the CRV file in case these are a help.

The settings in VCarve Pro
Note that the direction of machining is grayed out and I selected Last for the profile pass.

You can see the resulting toolpath has no profile pass even though it was created using the settings shown above.

I don't have V-Carve 8.5. I do have Aspire 8.5. When I load your file into Aspire 8.5 then re-calculate the pocket toolpath it does add that last interior profile pass. Someone with VCarve 8.5 will need to try your file. It works as you expect it to in Aspire 8.5

Thanks 4D thinker.
Very interesting that it works for you but no matter what I do it won't work for me. (Even though you are using Aspire.)

I was originally thinking I had a corrupt install of 8.5 but when it was installed on my previous hard drive it behaved exactly the same.
I am unable to use 8.5 until I figure out what is going wrong.

Thanks for trying the file.

In VCP8.511 it worked the way you show, until I recalculated, and then it worked great(sorry about adding a ramp, second nature).

Thank you Scott.
You have solved my problem.

The version I downloaded 4 weeks ago was 8.509. I didn't think to check for an update
I should known better.
Just installed the update and now it works as expected.

Now I can get on with learning how to use the new features.

Many Thanks to Scott and 4D Thnker for your help.

Cheers
Peter
