Changing the length of a line - direct entry

Post by Kevin Nelson »

I'm trying to change the length of an existing line in a drawing. Example: I draw a square using either the square command or, out of 4 single lines. I could even have just one single line in the drawing. Is V-Carve capable of letting me select that line and typing in a new length? I have been digging in all the drawing dialog boxes and I haven't found a way to do this function. I haven't found an example in the video tutorials yet. The answer is probably staring me right in my face - any help would be appreciated.

1.Select the rectangle or line.
2. Go to the node edit mode.
3. Select the node you want to move and right click
4. Select properties from the resulting window
5. In the new window you have the choices you need.

You can also use the Set Size dialog (shortcut key T) and enter the new length there.

If the line is horizontal or vertical I have also used the scale function to resize the length.

Thanks - Both suggestion work. The Node Edit instructions let's me move either end of the line to the desired position. The T shortcut allows the entire line length to be changed but neither end is anchored. Both options are what I needed. One more question, is it possible to have one end of the line anchored when making the length change?

If you set the anchor point when using the scale/size tool you can set either end to be fixed. The default position is in the middle which will make both ends move. With a line clicking either of the right positions or left ones will anchor it.
