do i change router?

Post by lcp9073 »

Hello, first post. I just started using v carve and noticed some of the free projects use 90 degree 3/4" bits. My problem would be...my dewalt only accepts 1/4" shafts. do they make a bit that big in 1/4" shaft? ive been doing 3D for a few months now and every bit I own is 1/4". could the software use a smaller 90 degree bit and adjust accordingly to get the same effect?....or do I just buy another new router and not worry about shaft sizes anymore..lol. thanks

Sure! Just set the tool diameter in the database, and VCP will adapt. It will take more passes with a smaller tool diameter, and depending on the stiffness of the machine, there may be some sanding of the lines between passes, but that is about it. You can easily get larger diameter bits for 0.25" shanks, but the choice is yours. Mine are ~0.5" for the small shank, 0.75" for the 0.5" shank.
