saw something i needed advice on

Post by Custom carving »

i saw a carving, it looked like stacked text but not really. The back text was profile cut clear through and the front text was just v carved.
i just slapped this file together to give you a general idea I have not spent any time welding and clipping vectors. where do I go from here?

Not following that description. If the back text is profile cuts straight through then what material is the v-carve going into between letters?

Do you have a picture of the original?

I agree with Adrian... we need to see the original. The example gives no direction of how you want it. If you profile, cut-out either letters on each line, you lose material that is part of the letters. That is why Adrian is saying you have no backing. Please provide a link to the original or upload a picture of the orginal. Then we can hopefully help you.

Stacked Text ----

Yup, the 1 and a single period are FREE and really not a whole lot of material holding the rest together.

Hopefully it will still be at church this weekend so I can get a picture of it
I know I didn’t do a very good job of explaining it
It just looked cool to me

I was hoping for a better understanding at least. In all reality, if you say the back (large) letters were profile, cut out, how is that possible? You can not have the center of the 'P' floating in mid-air without some type of backing. I am now very curious to see the original.

Maybe a couple of Photos from different angles will help show the intended design?

This statement has, I believe, totally mislead people. And the really ugly sample images posted by other would be my proof.

What, I believe, is wanted is exactly a "stacked text". The text "Psalm 23.1" will be cut with a straight-sided cut. But the "The Lord..." text will be "prism cut" either using the Prism Toolpath or the "V-Carve / Engraving" toolpath.

I guess I should have tried to stack it, instead of just throwing something together
I have never done a prism cut, how is that done?
Thanks for your input

Yup! The Sample Images I presented may be Ugly yes but they do show my intended proof that there is little material to keep everything together in carving just the aforementioned texts.
