Safe-Z Setting

Post by Tex_Lawrence »

Recently, I've noticed that I'm having trouble getting the Z Gap above Material setting in Material Setup to be recognized in toolpaths.

I've always had a Safe Z height of 0.8" in toolpaths and it always came from the above setting in Material Setup. In the latest VCP versions I can't get the tow settings to match. The toolpaths seem to take on an arbitrary setting or 1".

This is important to my machine because I have limited top on Z height.

Has anyone else seen this?

I think the Z Gap Above Material is just for the Home/Start position.

The Rapid Z Gaps is the 'Safe Z' of the cutting toolpath.

Thanks MarshaJ. I get so used to settings remaining the same from file to file and toolpath to toolpath that when something causes a change I don't think straight!

Just something to remember --- Whenever you use say a file from someone on the forum or from someone's drop box some of your standard settings can very well change. It is always an good Idea to review one of your files for changes after reviewing someone else's files(s)!!! Some settings which I have seen change often are "Rapid Z Gap above Material" and "Z Gap above Material". There may be others. But I find that a good practice to get into is to check one of your previous OWNED/CREATED files and if they are changed put them back and re-save the file. Now you are back to what your settings are and not someone else's.

Just an Opinion/Thought!!
