Tool settings

Post by jonathanmahnken »

I actually have no idea how to properly set up tools for pocketing or v carving. For instance if i am trying to pocket a .75" wide dado with a .25 bit I have noticed that if I use the raster selection the pocket comes out the wrong size. when I use the offset selection it coms out fine, but appears to take longer. Another instance are my v bit settings. I dont understand the degrees, and step over settings ect... I feel like more step over is faster. but the bit comes to a point so...

Too big or too small? In which dimensions?

There are a couple of instances when raster pocketing comes out a different size than offset:
  • you set the last pass to "none"
  • your tool has a stepover setting greater than the radius of the square end cutter and the pocket is particularly thin
