New test with same result

Post by electrictermite »

turtle vbit pass.jpg
I tried a new inlay with turtle but finish pass with 15% v bit does not touch walls. file was too big to attach ? could not attach video showing vbit not coming close to walls for finish pass . i only could attached the male plug. What edit can i make on tool to get tip over close enough for taper cut to be made. i pasted pic of how far away vbit is during run.

If the file is too large to upload here you can use a file sharing site such as drive.google.com, onedrive.com, or dropbox.com. They all have free accounts available
  • Upload the file to the file sharing site
  • Make the link shareable
  • Share the link to the file here
could not attach video
The easiest way to share videos is to upload them to YouTube. After the video is uploaded copy the link provided in Sharing on YouTube. Back on the Vectric forum use the media embed tool to paste in the video URL and share the video.

Until you fix the error that I pointed out in the last thread you started it will never work. You have the 1/8" diameter clearance bit defined as 0.0125" it should be 0.125".

It is relevant as you still have the same problem in the file you posted here. The clearance bit is defined incorrectly so the actual clearance cut will be removing far more material than VCarve is expecting which is why your finish cut is never reaching the edge.

70% stepover is too large too. Usually 40 on an EM.

Go back to what Adrian is telling you.

Set your 1/8 end mill to .125

You have it set to .0125 which is wrong. This is the cause of the problem.

Two Items I notice in your file noted at the beginning of this thread.

1.) .0125 in the Diameter box for the CLEARANCE TOOL which is described as a Spiral 1/8" Dia. ref attached

2.) "Project toolpath onto 3D model" is checked BUT there is NO model in this project!!! ref attached

Good luck with that. I've been telling the OP since Monday on this thread and his other thread that that is the issue but he doesn't believe me for some reason.

For z-zero set to the surface of the material this is not such a big deal. But with z-zero set to the machine bed/spoilboard this is just asking for catastrophic damage...

Whenever I turn that option on I’m hyper-aware that it won’t cause cutting into my machine. That’s one option that really shouldn’t be remembered from toolpath to toolpath.

I apologize Adrian for not understanding your first reply. I am also 7 weeks out of shoulder surgery so have been busy at physical therapy and related issues. I just got a chance to fix issues from your reply. I got extremely frustrated with the inlay process after weeks of failure became focused on the finish bit to the extent that your comment did not make sense . i thought your comment was about the finish bit, shows you how focused i was on the wrong thing. Things are working fine now, thanks to you and others here.

All that really matters is that you got through the issue, and you learned something new. Trust me, we all go through the same stuff. Been there Done that.

And the finished product looks fantastic.
