End of Table Clamping Vertically
I would be Interested in seeing photos of other forum members machines that have end of table clamping for vertical board end carving (dovetails and the like). I am in the process of adding to the end of my CNC machine the above mentioned capability. I read somewhere in this forum that someone actually has this capability if the inner portion of their machine. I believe it may have been forum member - 4D Thinker. Anyhow I want to see the various clamping options that others have rigged their machines up with to determine how I am going to proceed with mine.

Re: End of Table Clamping Vertically
Yes I do, and although I've gone through many variations this jig also allows cutting compound angled joinery. In the top photo the jig was designed to replace the original MDF bed completely. Both adjust from vertical to horizontal. The bottom one is on my person Probotix Meteor CNC. The slots are used to slip c-clamps through for holding the work. Of course if all you want is vertical clamping then a much simpler rig would do the job. The curved arms let me lock the jigs at any angle. As I occasionally have to remove the jig when cutting large flat work it bolts into the top of the front rail for quick removal and easy install. if you've got a CNC Shark (I also do) then the challenge will be greater with the Y stepper in the middle and running down the middle under the bed.

Re: End of Table Clamping Vertically
I don't have a picture of it to hand but I just took an old generic dovetail jig and bolted it to a board. When I need to cut vertically I screw the board into the spoilboard with the jig over the end. My spoilboard is 8x4 but the machine has a movement area of nearly 9' in the X so there's plenty of room.

Probably plenty of options if you do a google search, sure TReischl is another member who has posted pictures in the past
I adapted my machine to give me a small area for Vertical work holding but I worked around the limitations of my particular machine so not something I would suggest others do unless they were running exactly the same machine

Here is a video of my setup:
https://youtu.be/NhLkB1ZyOPo
This mounts into the t track and hangs over the front of the machine.
There are two 3/8 square brass bars at the top that are slid out to locate the end of a board.
On the left side is a vertical alignment strip.
Nothing fancy but it has worked real well for about 7 years now.

Re: End of Table Clamping Vertically
Well thank you guys!
I now have some sources to work from. And yes I have a Shark CNC so it is going to be a challenge. I may not be able to do board ends over 12" with my intended setup at end of table due to the y axis motor at center of the x axis. Of course I was just looking for a way to make drawer and small box end joinery.

Did you cut those Table strips Leo or just buy shorter ones? Haven't seen that before that I can recall which surprises me as you post a lot of what you do & I don't miss much
I was going to do something along the same lines & cut the aluminium slats on my table to give me a long section that I could use across the X axis but having cut 2 of them I ended up just building a very small vertical axis along the Y axis instead Think I can do maybe 12" max with it as it is but it's enough for the small projects I do just now.

Re: End of Table Clamping Vertically
Martin, sorry, I never posted it. There is a lot more that I have not posted than what I have posted.
I cut the strips on my SCMS. It's just aluminum.

Re: End of Table Clamping Vertically
I had one set up just for cutting Aluminium, use to cut a lot of sign framing but it was in bits at the time I cut my aluminium slats so I cut them by hand, with my health 2 was enough
Machine has had to be stripped down to move to new workshop & I am wondering if I should just leave them off completely & just fit an MDF spoilboard. The steel frame is really over engineered for whats needed & leaving them off would give me an extra 12mm z height & when you only have 55mm to start with that's a lot

Well here are photos of what I constructed on the end of my cnc machine.

Re: End of Table Clamping Vertically
Well that didn't take you long
Have you made sure it is at 90 degrees to the table top & runs parallel to the gantry?

Thank you, I will be sure to check that before my test .tap file. I had checked the 90 to the table but not the parallelism to the gantry.
Thanks again,

Re: End of Table Clamping Vertically
Yeah, I wanted to keep it simple and use what I have available. Bolted Aluminum angle to underneath the table overhang and another down below under the mdf overhang which is underneath my cnc Machine as a part of my movable work stand. Put 5/16" holes into theby martin54 --- Well that didn't take you long
Aluminum for the clamp bolts which matched my clamp holddown screws.
Clamping at this position only allows me to do boards up to 1" thick and a width of about 11". I may be able to do wider boards by turning board around 180 degrees on an index of some kind and of course I will have to rig up clamping for the extended end.
This will be my first attempt pattern for the edge test -

Re: End of Table Clamping Vertically
Looks good.
Not much different to what I have. That's gonna work just fine. Looking forward to seeing the test results.
