Embedded shapes?
Embedded shapes?
I need to route out the shape created by embedding a circle in a circle. When I do it, the gcode created cuts the whole area, and not shape with a hole. Somehow the two shapes need to be merged into one object to cut properly. Subtracting one shape from another doesn't work
Is this possible in Cut2D?- Adrian

Re: Embedded shapes?
You'll need to attach the CRV file so we can see where you're going wrong. It's a simple toolpath so not sure what you've done.
If you draw two circles, one inside another and then create a profile toolpath with both selected it should do exactly what you want. I've attached an example file.

Re: Embedded shapes?
If you are importing a file from Adobe Illustrator your shape might be a compound path and that could confuse Cut2D.
Re: Embedded shapes?
I draw in Vectric, then export to SVG, the import into Easel to cut. Does SVG not support compound embedded paths?

Re: Embedded shapes?
Why are you exporting as SVG? I thought the issue was creating toolpaths in Cut2D?
Re: Embedded shapes?
I like the way easel cuts, over vectric

Re: Embedded shapes?
How does Easel “cut” differently than Cut2D?
Re: Embedded shapes?
Basically, it easier. It's web-based, so file transfer is easy and there is an automatic rouging/detail pass for the pockets

Re: Embedded shapes?
Well you should be asking about the issue in Easel forums really. The shape you want to cut is extremely simple in Cut2D.

Re: Embedded shapes?
Not sure how it could be easier, I have never used you software you mention but with cut2d this would be a profile pass, there are no pockets
Not something I have used but I thought Vtransfer was something that vectric supported that sent the code directly to the machine if you have a grbl controller.
As Adrian has said it couldn't be much easier in cut2D

Thanks all
Re: Embedded shapes?
@bferster just to clarify for other readers of this post the problem you're experiencing looks like it lies entirely with Easel - as the other contributors have said, this issue simply doesn't occur in our software - nested shapes are automatically treated as internal holes when cut together with the boundary shape.
Also as Martin points out, anyone using a grbl-based controller connected by a USB serial cable can install the VTransfer program that we provide as part of the installer for all of our products. This provides homing, jogging, origin setting etc. and will 'stream' the gcode that we create to the grbl controller on your machine.
Easel is not needed for any step in the process and appears to be introducing the problem you are experiencing.
Cheers

Re: Embedded shapes?
I think you are right.
I love the drawing capabilities in Vectric, but have been putting off learning Vectric’s tool paths, since my work flow has been so effortless going through easel.
