Double sided Cutting issue

Post by MikePrescott »

A design for a double-sided PCB was done using DipTrace, and imported into Cut2D-Desktop via Bitmap.

No issues with the Top Board, Toolpaths OK, the CNC cuts to copper clad board perfectly.

The issue is with the Bottom Board, the cutting tool cuts in air.

Tried all sorts, even manually setting the engraving tool onto the surface, this is problematic as sometimes the engraver tool cuts to deep.

Very frustrated, so decided to look at the G-code for the top side and bottom side and found the issue:-

Top side Bottom side
N210G1Z-0.080F400.0 N210G1Z1.590F400.0

Thats why the cutter hovers 1.59mm above the board.

Any suggestions please?

Michael

Can you upload your file .CRV to the forum? That will eliminate a lot of questions and guessing

Here is a link to the FAQ describing how to upload your file. (How do I upload files or photos to the forum?)

If the file is too large to upload here you can use a file sharing site such as drive.google.com, onedrive.com, or dropbox.com. They all have free accounts available
  • Upload the file to the file sharing site
  • Make the link shareable
  • Share the link to the file here
For screenshots please use the Windows Snipping tool. These are far easier to read than photos taken with your phone.

Is this how you are setting up your double-sided job?

If so, when you do the second side you are supposed to reset the z-zero to the surface of the spoilboard (i.e. the bottom of the material). If you keep the z-zero on the second side at the material surface then the cut will run "in the air".

If you want to set z-zero to the material surface for both sides then uncheck the "Zero off same side" option. It's a confusingly worded option despite the dot on each image.

In the job setup, make sure the "Zero off same side" box isn't checked.

Thank you all of you for the help, yes the "Zero off same side" box was ticked.

Unticking the box and recalculating the code, checked the G-code -all OK.

A perfect board was machined.

Cheers

Michael.
