Quick question about Pocket Allowance

Post by NewAtThis »

Have I got this right?

I want to produce a box with a lip for a lid to fit on to it, similar to this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jVA6f5C4Btw) video on YT. Should I use the Pocket Allowance to do this and, if so, is an offset of 0.02mm enough for the lid not being an interference fit?

Thanks

It's a 26 minute video. Any particular time code we should look at?

It's also worth noting what the help file says about it:
Pocket Allowance

This option is used to leave material on the inside of the pocket for the Profile Pass to clean-up. This is often very useful for ensuring the cutter does not mark the edge surface of the pocket when roughing out.

Personally, I would use a clearance of at least .25mm per side. This may not be enough for some woods and machine setups.

Point made. It's at 0:25 but I linked the video just to show the lip.

So, this would make the pocket in the lid 0.5mm larger than the lip it sits on.

That makes sense, thank you.
