Misaligned text?

Post by NewAtThis »

Hi,
I want to produce a simple house nameplate using standard text, but the text seems to be misaligned, at least according to the screenshot, shown below:
Screenshot 2022-07-28 at 12.17.47.png
I used the Draw Text button and various fonts, but the result is the same, i.e. the O, U and S are below the bottom line and only the O and S are on the top line.

I appreciate the lines are only placeholders for the vector, but why are the letters out of line?

Thanks

Perfectly normal in font design. Here’s a link that may be helpful:

Well, I didn't know that, thank you.

So, if this not-rule is relevant for printed text, I'm assuming it extrapolates into carved lettering?

Hmm, querolous for an engineer, methinks!

Any lettering that is going to be seen with the human eye needs to behave like that or it will look wrong.

It's nothing really to do with how the lettering is produced, it's who will be looking at it. The bigger the lettering the more wrong it looks like to the eye if the heights are the same.
