Cutting text

Post by Gunny Rogers »

I'm having a problem with writing text. The bit will drag across my project from letter to letter. it comes up but not all of the way out of the letter. I believe that I have adjusted the distance above the project correctly but it sill drags. I need some help in trying to fix this problem.

One possibility is that the Z axis is loosing steps when it is attempting to rise. The most common cause is hitting a hard upper limit.

Does the issue show up in the preview?

Can you post an example file that shows the problem?
(How do I upload files or photos to the forum?)

If the file is too large to upload here you can use a file sharing site such as drive.google.com, onedrive.com, or dropbox.com. They all have free accounts available
  • Upload the file to the file sharing site
  • Make the link shareable
  • Share the link to the file here

The file isn't very large and the dragging of the bit happens at the beginning of the file. I can't speak to the Z axis because I believe that I have all of the parameters set properly. Is there a way to correct this issue. Thinking I can run the router down all the way to the bed until it bottoms out. I haven't tried this yet just waiting it hear from any one who can speak to this problem.

It would really help to see the .CRV file.

I will return later. I don't know how to share files yet, I'll have to ask my granddaughter to see if she can teach me.

You have two options in Cut2D (and with VCarve/Aspire) for z-zero position. The z-zero can be on top of the material or the bottom (the top of the spoil board/table). You can use whichever you prefer but when you set the z-zero on the actual machine using your control software it MUST be the same as you've set it in Cut2D.

The Z clearance parameters within Cut2D on the Material Setup dialog won't allow you to set values that would cause the bit to drag across the material so if you're seeing that it's something wrong with the way you're setting the z-zero, the material thickness doesn't match what you've set in the job (if you're zeroing on the table surface) or the material isn't flat.

I will try to get it right when I am setting the z-zero and placing the machine no the bed to see if that corrects the bit from being dragged across the project. Thank you
