Empty toolpath error message with new tool

Post by jaimef70 »

I added a new tool to my database for a 6.5mm straight bit.

My design looks like this:

I can create a pocket toolpath for the vertical slots, but when I try to create one for the bottom horizontal, I get an error message saying "The following tools produced an empty toolpath" and it shows the 6.5mm bit.

I can produce pocket toolpaths for both if I use one of the pre-defined bits, like the 1/8" end mill.

I've attached my .CRV file. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

You have no toolpath created or tool selected. The pocket toolpath works fine for me using a .125 EM, a 6mm EM or even a 12mm EM at a depth of .25". Maybe I'm missing something here.

I just tried the 6mm and it worked for me as well.

Removed it and then loaded my 6.5mm. Got the same error message. So its got something to do with the bit I created. I'll review the help guide to see what I'm missing.

Try uploading the file with the toolpath and bit in question so maybe we can see the problem.

By the way: are you 100% sure that the bit is 6.5mm in diameter? Have you checked it with a caliper?

Seeing your post I just went searching online for 6.5mm bits and three manufacturers claimed that they sold 6.5mm (1/4 inch) bits. But. 1/4 inch is not 6.5mm. It is 6.35mm.

6.5mm is bigger than 0.25" (the height of the bottom vector) therefore it's physically impossible for the toolpath to be created as the tool won't fit in the slot.

If you want a 0.25" pocket then the easiest way is to use a straight line and cut on it with the profile toolpath.
