Lots of questions inside! edge lit and routing aluminum

Just like the title says I would like to get into edge lit acrylic and have a few good ideas that I would like to try.
Is there a good thread on doing this type of work start to finish with tooling recommendations? I am ready to buy a few bits for this but I know nothing about the edge lit procedures etc.
Second is I started routing aluminum with pretty good results making some small emblems etc. I have a few problems with this so far.
I am using 1/8" aluminum routing with 1/8" bit It is a straight spiral flute bit so I cant get nice rounded edges etc. Any better ways to do this without having to upgrade software to something with a tool change?
I have seen some highly detailed emblems and that's what I would like to start making.
