I wonder two things:
  • how does the "laser no longer work"
  • is this updating from 11.5xx to 11.552 or upgrading from 11.50x to 11.552. If the latter does the laser module need to be re-activated?

adze_cnc the laser was working fine up through the update immediately prior to 11.552 . I ran a tool path with the laser module a day or two before 11.552 came out. I haven't made any other changes which makes me think something in the update caused my issue. What do i need to do to update the laser module?

Hello Bfteagle.

If you have contacted support@vectric.com you would get back an automated email with a reference number straight away.
If you did not get that reference email then I'm afraid you would have emailed somewhere else.

Please check the email you are sending to and ensure it is spelt exactly as listed above.

Many thanks

Hello,

Our senior (78, still highly experienced in our 3- and 5-axis cnc`s and respective software) is in the starting phase with VCarve-Pro. His current project is a chair leg that is to be turned on our small CNC (Sorotec Alu-Line 1107 with turning function).
As we understand, this piece of work cannot be designed in VCarve-Pro, but it can still be executed (operations, tools and NC code creation). However, it can be drawn in e.g. Aspire.

He would now like to commission the design to someone who works in Aspire.
How/where can we find someone who could do the construction for him? Is there a corresponding space here in the subforums? Possibly under Aspire – General or elsewhere?
I am attaching a few pictures of the corresponding piece of work here. (As I said, this is just about the chair leg)
Thank you in advance.

Best regards

Christian

Chris, have a look at this. Steve Godding posted this years ago on doing a cabriole leg in Aspire. He has a website, maybe you can contact him through that.

Thank you, litzluth! I skimmed the post and it's basically what we're looking for. I'll try to reach him.

Best regards

It's been a long time since that post!!

There are some challenges with this design because the centerline of the part is exposed, or at least very near the surface in the curved portions of the leg. This makes a straightforward rotary design very difficult or even impossible in the Vectric products. The areas where the centerline is exposed will be severely distorted. If you look at my original project I was careful to keep the curve gentle so that the centerline was always inside the material after cutting.

This design is better done in the Vectric products as an indexed project where 3 or 4 sides are carved and the part flipped 90 degrees between each carve. It might be possible to do it as just a 2-sided part, but the carve angles get really steep and you risk ugly carving marks and collet clearing issues on the front and back of the leg where you least want damage.

This can still be done on a rotary indexer, if the stepper motor is strong enough. You just carve a side, turn the indexer 90 degrees, and carve the next side. However, if I was to try this part today I would build a cradle jig for the part and carve it on the table rather than an indexer, as it would result in far less vibration and lower risk that the stepper motor doesn't hold the part in place without losing steps from the force of the bit against the material.

While this leg could be designed natively in Aspire, it might be better to do it in another package and import it. There are a lot of other folks doing more rotary work than me now, so maybe someone else has some thoughts.

Thank you Steve,

even though he is a beginner he understood too that this would be a challenge.
Thank you for your reference to the “Wrapped Rotary Machining” forum.
We will post our post there and are excited to see what response we can get there.

Best regards

Christian

I am having a problem with the Dove Tail Gadget. When I create the tails or pins left end of the board is fine, right end of board is facing the same direction instead of opposite direction as should be. Using Vcarve Pro, Bard dimensions 14 X 5 X 0.5. Cutting 3 tails, Width 0.75 Depth 0.5 Angle 14. Any help is apperciated.

You need to swap the start node on the vector on the right end. Go into node edit mode on that vector and note which end the green square is on. Hover the mouse over the black square at the other end and press P to make that the start node.

new to vcarve pro; question, i create a design and save to usb drive , i run my carve and decide to make a change or adjustment. when i go to open this ngc file i can see it on my computer but not when I'm in the vcarve program. my" search all" box doesn't have this file in it so my usb drive looks blank. how can i add this ngc code to vcarve's file search.
