Melamine

Post by grompot »

I was doing carvings on Melamine a few months back. I plan to use this technique on my kitchen cabinets.

I really enjoy doing things like this with PVC, I do it slightly differently than those directions though but it's fun to try different settings and techniques to see how they turn out.

Would you please list the settings you used for the cuts. Thanks. George.

Also, what did you use for a finish to get the darker shades?

And what wood is that?

The settings I used is about 14% line spacing, this varies based on size or level of detail I want, and I usually use a .125 ball nose. Sometimes I cut at a .05 or .03 depth, this also depends on the picture. After it's cut I cover it in paint and then sand off the top until I get the desired shading.

These were done in pine.

I hope that helps.

Do you use any type of sealer before painting to avoid bleeding?

Not on these. I usually use chalk paint because it's thicker and it doesn't seem to bleed at all.
