Religious litho

Post by Xxray »

Looks like it came out nice, just holding it up to a light right off the table, is 9x7.5" and took about 6 hours with a 1/32 bit

Nice. What will you use for a back lighting scheme?

Finally got around to making a light box, made it out of scrap flooring. Looks Ok, cut edges don't look too good.

Looks like you and I, Doug....will never learn to NOT start a cut that will keep us up till the Wee Hours. :)
Looks like it came out Great with the (Precise Bits?) 32'nd!
Great detail on a good sized one(as usual:)!

Box could use a little "Creative" sanding, but sometimes think the same could be applied to ME :)
Is matching "flooring" finish difficult, or do you contrast it to "Celebrate the Difference"
I've got a wonderful Finish cut-off blade that leaves only a tiny 400G stationary belt sand on endgrain to bring to 600G like finish, but similar rip blades have escaped me so far
Nice job!

Box was more like a feasibility case, material is only .25 thick and I wasn't sure it was possible to use this for a box. I route in a grove in all 4 pieces to lock the litho in place when put together, usually this grove is .25 deep but obviously had to be much less using this. Also usually use air staples to hold it together, also not possible using this stuff [I normally use .5 mdf and then simply paint it]. For this I used small finish nails, first drilling a small hole then tapping the glue soaked nails in. So it has proven feasible but there is room for improvement ,,, Material is cheap click flooring and not actual hardwood, so the machined edges are bound to look like crap - I wanted a rustic look and by god, I got it !

Next I'd like to try a box made of mdf but with a veneer overlay.
