Xmas decorations

Post by large519 »

With the festive season approaching over here in england, a novel idea for our tree were these decorations, three different shapes, snowman, bauble and a bell made from oak, cherry and maple.

Really nice idea and well executed.
Have you thought about using the 'Half Tone' gadget for the pics.
Cheers,
Alan

With this being in the Photcarve forum section, the half toner gadget is looking for a 3d component and I suspect only for Aspire. Would be nice to see some of that type feature in future versions of Photocarve though....

What a great idea and what a wonderful gift they would make.
I haven't tried the half tone gadget yet, but I'm certain it would look nifty too.

Thanks for sharing. Dale :D

Very nice and a great Christmas gift. The size looks pretty small compared to the red Bulbs. Can you tell us what approximate size they are and about how long it took to run? Did you use a 1/16 Ball nose bit?

Thanks,
Mark

They look pretty good & as someone has said great idea for christmas, I've not been able to get a photo carve to look good in wood, must be something I am doing wrong as others seem to manage

Yes I went to the link and downloaded the gadget. When I try it it just looks like a bunch of holes. I was looking for some detail sample project instructions.
Thank You

Given the nature of the Halftoner gadget I would guess it would be quite hard to get decent results with something as small as a tree decoration so may not be applicable for this (would be happy to see something proving me wrong...) With regard to instructions on how to use the gadget, we plan to post an instructional video in the next week or two showing how this can be used to create the example shown in the photos on the page.

Getting back to the original post by large519 - very nice job using PhotoVCarve and some clever finishing to create the decorations.

Cheers,
James

Be interesting to see how the half tone method compares, especially on a small item like this, of course that option is only open to those that are using Aspire to create them, not something that can be done in photovcarve is it.

Thank you all, for your comments. These have become very popular, I tend to use just the face of the subject now, and remove the background from most, I'll post some more samples later.

The stock size of the wood is 115mmx110mmx10mm , the actual pic size is 80mm diameter. Each pic varies in run time due to the degree in detail, minimum of 30min, using a 1bn.
