First Photo VCarve

This is my first attempt at a Photo VCarve using VCarve Pro 11. I used maple, a 60 degree VBit, 100% line spacing, 45 degree raster and max depth of .05 inches. I flattened the board with a spoilboard bit, then sanded it to 320 grit before carving. After the board was done I sprayed 2 coats of lacquer and let dry overnight before spray painting the black. I let that dry for 24 hours before sanding the spray paint with 150 grit to bring out the picture. I was quite surprised it worked the first time.

Thanks. Next time I’ll VCarve an ellipse around the outside of the oval cropped picture to make a clean line.

There are videos but most of the time I wing it The one thing I found that was important was to flatten the piece before you start carving the photo. Some of the cuts are shallow and if your board is not flat the shallow cuts will be air. It’s happened to me on a couple of VCarve cribbage boards.
