Park Bench

Post by scotttarnor »

An individual in my area runs a saw mill and does clean up for the city on big trees swapping the labor for the tree, He is dedicating a bench to the city made from one of the trees, He asked if I could do a carve of Grandads Bluff for the bench. I went out and took some photos and this is what I came up with so far, I think I need to sand out a little more, might try 0000 steel wool to lighten up more of the rock.

Scott,
I thought that picture looked familiar! LaCrosse, and Onalaska were where i grew up. Once upon a time I pedaled my bike all the way to the top of the bluff. The ride back down was easier...and faster.
Nice job on the bench.
Is there still a concession stand at the top? My one year old daughter (wayyyy back) used to call it the Confession stand.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

Bob, The shelter up there was remodeled a few years back, Still the same structure, no concessions just a room. I have ridden my bike up Irish hill once, I have a ton of gears, Guys at work talk about riding up it back in the day on single speeds, Oh to be young !
