Concave cutting creates optical illusion

Post by edjansen7 »

There is a story behind this icon that has to do with the imprint of Jesus' face onto a cloth. Not to be confused with the Shroud of Turin; this is the Holy Face of Mandylion. Anyway, because the icon is an image of an imprint I decided to change the model from convex to concave. What is amazing to me is that, depending on how you look at this, it can appear to be convex or concave. The first time I looked at it, once it was completed, took me aback.....having a sense of the mystical. I think I'll experiment more with changing future models this way..
