I want to change the way we make molds for vacuum forming. We stack layers of 3/4" material and I reduce each layer 1/8" smaller. This makes a stair step between each layer as we stack 3-6" tall. Then we use Bondo and fill in the steps. So what I would like to do is make my composite shape say at 4" thick with a 5 degree taper on the side. Then slice the object into 3/4" pieces.
What I have a problem or two with is I want to use a flat bottom tapered bit with 5 degree sides. The custom tool maker only allows for a radius. Then when I slice the object, I'm not sure what is going to happen or the best way to setup the tool path. I want to only do a profile cut. If I setup the flat bottom taper tool, will it cut the profile at the bottom line understanding the tool will do the 5 degree taper?
Thanks,
James

Re: Mold Making Help Cutting Taper
Would something like this bit help? I suspect other than 7 degrees could be found somewhere.
7 degree "patternmaker"
