Shapeoko 3 XXL- Cut 3D or Cut 2D pro

Post by GeneMpls »

My Great-Grandson in Texas just bought a Shapeoko 3 XXL and is using the free carbidecreate/carbidemotion software and would like me to guide him in his journey . I looked at the Carbidecreate download and am thinking I should buy him Cut 3d or 2d pro- to help out both of us. I have used Aspire for many years and consider myself fluent in that and other software. I have a Shopbot Buddy 48" alpha. Anyone have any thoughts about any of the program choices? Thanks Gene

Cut2D would be a better starting point. With that he can learn the basics of drawing and cutting out pieces.

If he later wishes to upgrade to VCarve or Aspire then he would just pay the price difference.

Thanks- he is actually my GreatGrandson-in-law- but I am trying to help him get ahead [and have fun doing it]- it appears that Shapeoko has a program [ Carbide Motion which would take the place of my Shopbot Control system software] I have to assume that would dovetail with Cut 2D very nicely.
