Part Positioning

Post by PDC#1 »

If i have a part that is 42" on the X axis and 92" on the Y axis . And i want to mill it out of a piece of material 58" x 96" .
Is there a way that i can position my part to the top right of the material?

You've posted in the Cut3D section. Is that the software you have?

Can you explain why you need to do this? If we know why, we can probably give you a better answer.

There are at least 4 different ways to move vectors, plus you can possibly offset the origins, or modify the material setup. Your machine controller may have other options.
To move the vectors:
Select all of them, (Control A) and do one of the following:
1. Use the arrow keys.
2. Use the Alignment Tools.
3. Click (a second time) on a vector, and click and drag the center resulting icon square.
4. Use the Move Selection Tool.
Good judgement comes from experience.
Experience comes from bad judgement.

This Reply is for FixitMike;
Mike what i am trying to learn is if i can change the location of my part within my Material.
i am used to using a program called other software to create the tap file for our CNC machine and in that software you use the nesting tool to locate your part on the table.
i am not getting any movement or reaction to anything in Vectric Cut3d related to what you are describing. Holding control A

What might be useful is a 3D view of your material and model rather than a plan view. Also, the "Orientate and Size Model" screen in addition to the above "Material Setup" screen.

OK , here are 3 views. In the first, Size and Margin I am trying to show that i have the Origin of XYZ set in the top right corner, that is the way our machine is set up yet the part does not start milling in the right location.
Second view (rough In) is to try to show that our material setup is 2 pieces of 3/4" material already having the perimeter cut to shape and i have the cut plane set in the middle so why is it wanting to mill around the perimeter?
Third (Finish Path) in this view take note that the lighter colored area in the top right is flat, so why would it be wanting to mill over top of this area? what i am trying to create is a continues compound slop, for a sloped floor to a drain.
Any advice i think would be helpful!
