Bowl.v3d sample file

Post by wbollig2 »

I am trying to machine the Vectric Bowl.v3d sample file. I cannot get the cut-out pass to go all the way through the material. It stops at the Cut Plane (.3). If I do NOT preserve tabs during cut out, then it cuts all the way through. Any help?

Machining the front or back side? It's a two sided job so you would normally set it up to cut all the way after you had flipped it and cut the other side.

I am following the tutorial video, frame for frame. My settings are exactly the same as his on every screen. His simulation cuts through the material expect for the tabs. My only cuts down partially, never cutting out the part.

As in the video, I am cutting TOP side.

Sorry I thought it was the shell bowl which is two sided.

I've just gone through the video myself and I get exactly the same results as the video with the bowl cut out and the tabs preserved.

I would go through again and double check the settings for each step. The video does make changes to the defaults for that file on most of them. I almost missed the cut plane and thickness changes for example.

Well I appreciate your help, but something is wrong. I have checked each screen at least 5 times. Is it a version issue? Mine is Version 1.110 Full License.

The video shows 4 passes on the cut out tool path. Mine shows the first two passes. If the material thickness is .75 and the pass depth is .2, I would expect 4 passes. What would cause the cutout calculation think it only needs two passes: 1) If the material was set to .4 thick (which it isn't) or 2) if the pass depth were .375 (which it isn't). The mid plane is at .3 and the tabs are in the correct position.

Again, any help would be appreciated.

Have you got a value in the "Material to leave" box on the cutout path, that would reduce the effective depth of the material?

How many passes do you get if you delete the tabs?

Bit of a loss to be honest as to what's going on. I'm surprised no-one else has jumped in.

If I un-check "preserve tabs during cutout", I get 4 passes (as expected) and a total cut-out. It seems to point to a tab problem, so I deleted the tabs and re-added them. Same results.

Any ideas?

Sorry, I forgot to add: The "Material to Leave" is set to 0 (zero).
