VA3D Sample File Carved into Marble

Post by Tony Mac »

Kamil from MARMUR GRANIT in Poland used the Free Vector Art 3D Machinist
software to test that the Vectric software would be compatible with his 3m
x 2.6m Polish CNC machine.

The sample is machined into Spanish marble called Crema Marfil and is pretty
large at 500mm x 370mm x 20mm deep (20" x 14.5" x 0.75" deep).

The rough machining was done using a 28mm dia (1 1/8") end mill and took 2.5
hours. The finishing was done using a 3mm dia (1/8") ball nose and took 18 hours.

The machining times appear to be quite long but Kamil said "20 hours for such a
large marble piece is very good. Plus I'm still learning how to CNC machine stone
and marble and I'm sure the time can be reduced."

Very impressive! Thanks Tony and Kamil for sharing.
Was there any coolant used in the process?

Hello everyone, my name is Kamil.
I must say thanks to Tony for showing you my little work made with Vectric software.

As Tony said that was my first job like this, before that I was machining the counter tops plus some simple pieces for fire places.
I would like to spread my bussines for some special projects like sculptures and similar stuff. Please if you like, visit my company's page.
www.marmursolniczki.pl - it's in polish language so sorry that most of you won't understand a lot ;) but I encourage you to see my galleries especialy in "Frezowanie CNC" subpage ( link - http://www.marmursolniczki.pl/inne_realizacje.html ) - to see some of my works - well at the moment there are mainly projects made with water jet cutter but soon I shall add some nice stuff from my CNC.

Sorry for so long introduction but I hope I wasn't boring.
As for my 'marble bull' and replying to mikeacg question - Yes I must use coolant ( for stone it is water ) not to damage my tools, for sculpting I must use 10 000 rpm so the tools are on fire :).

Thanks
