Bird House

Post by dbowlin »

I made this Bird House for an Aunt that has her 84 birthday coming up this week. I used the hack of the week for the door and one side. I also carved 2 maple birds which are Hannah's design. Thanks Hannah and thanks Design and Make for the free hack of the week.
The bird house is poplar with a Watco light walnut stain and the maple birds have a Watco natural finish on them.

Thanks everyone! When I first say the posting for the free project, the Bird House popped in my head. So I just had to do it.
I also just had to carve Hannas birds.
Thanks again.

Looks great, have you considered adding a perch? Also for us last ones would you share your modified version of the file?

I did not cut the Bird house out with my CNC. It was a repurposed won made by the Colorado Woodworkers Guild. Which they did not need any more. So I added the dimensions in Vcarve Pro and carved them out. I have attached my scanned shop notes, I hope they help.
I also carved here appt. number and last name just below the front step. It is not show in the pictures.
I am not sure which file you want? Let me know if you need anything else.

So did you just drill a hole over the heart in the design?

I lined the heart up with the pre drilled 1 1/4” hole existing in the board. I than carved the door and a new 1 1/4” hole to match things up.. You could add any size hole you want depending on the type of birds you want to nest in your bird house.
I did not add a perch, it will be left indoors for a decoration only.

@dbowlin please can you advise what steps you took to trace that image and then carve out? Your output looks great!
