Re: Create Fillets question
Hi Viktor, I agree wholeheartedly that Aspire is a great piece of software. I also have a few CAD programs, and Aspire makes it much easier to do most things! Can't beat the price, either! Your example works - I think the difference may be that I used node edit to extend the line, so they were very ...

Re: Create Fillets question
Hi Viktor, Thanks for the excellent examples. I'll definitely use the methods you outlined. However, what I was really wondering about was the actual "Create Fillets" tool, and how it acts under certain circumstances. I was wondering if this is a bug in the software, or something obvious I'm missing...

Create Fillets question
Hi all, While trying to answer a question in the VCarve topic I ran into an interesting thing that I hope someone can shed some light on. If I draw a rectangle with the rectangle tool, for instance, I can create any type of fillet on the corners. How ever, if I create some lines and and join them in...

Re: Editing questions
Hi Bertho, Not silly questions at all - This is rather different than a regular CAD program. I'll take it a step at a time: Trim: Select the line and hit the "n" key to enter node editing. Then with your mouse over the part of the line where you want to trim it, hit "i" to insert a node. Now hit the...

Re: Mantel...
Thanks for the kind words, Joe! Your mantle looks great. I definitely agree with you about sanding - I ran the finish pass on my backsplash at 180"/minute (3"/sec), with an 8% stepover on a 1/8" tapered ball nose and was pleasantly surprised to have almost no sanding at all! I just ran over the whol...

Re: Bathroom backsplash
Thanks Viktor, This was also the first time I've tried rest machining. It really helped "pop" the grapes, trees and deer antlers. I roughed it with a 1/4" super O spiral, ran a finish toolpath with a tapered 1/8" ball nose, then finally ran the rest machining finish path with a 1/16" ball nose. It w...

Bathroom backsplash
Hi all, I took a break from real work  , and made something for myself. My master bath has an oak backsplash that I decided would look good carved - so I ripped it out and gave it a try! Only smashed one finger with the large mirrir doiing it, too!! This is just a picture of it by itself, I'll ...

Re: Wine Barrel
Yep - even after numbering the staves, it was still fun trying to position all of them in the slot so I could get the first ring back on. The second and third times were much faster, though! :) As tmerril stated, the grapes are from JamesB at vectorart3d.com - if you haven't tried any of their model...

Re: Redwood slab
Thanks Randall,
I'll give that a try. I've been wanting to try a gel stain. I'll post a picture after it's done.
Do you recommend the light finish coat first to seal it?

Re: Wine Barrel
Thanks. I actually live in Napa County, CA. So there are a LOT of wine barrels floating around! That's one of the reasons I wanted to try one. 8) This was is a very old barrel, and it had dowels between the head staves, which do limit the depth. There's about 8 inches of the barrel sides left intact...

Redwood slab
A friend turned me on to a bunch of large redwood slabs, that had been gathering dust for several years. I cut the VectorArt3d Stagecoach into a piece to see how it turned out. Now I'm at somewhat of a loss as to a finish. Any suggestions?
Thanks and best regards,
Ron

Wine Barrel
Tried playing with a really old wine barrel - interesting learning experience! I cut off about the first 8 inches if the barrel, dismantled, carved the head, then had lots of fun reassembling... I cut a circle out of some MDF I had laying around to enclose the back, and help hold it all together. Be...

.crv files won't open
Hi all, I have a couple of .crv files that won't open in Aspire V2. The first one gives an error Code 1, without further explanation. The second returns error Code 10 - File was written in version 4.007 Anyone know what Code 1 is? And perhaps a list of which versions Aspire can open? Thanks and best...

Re: Free file from 3D model club
Actaully, it appears its name is "Running with the wind, Black Andalusian" copyright Bob Langrish Photography. I have no idea whether or not they had permission.
I agree with RoutnAbout - I'll get my models from James B. if I don't have the time to model it myself...

Re: Free file from 3D model club - copyright infringement?
I cut the horse model yesterday, and left Aspire open on my development box, which happens to have WebShots installed to rotate my wallpaper, (I know - extraneous garbage  ), and it had changed my desktop wallpaper to the same image! How weird is that coincidence? Anyway, the carving turned out...
