Re: Finish Cut leaving a groove
Just a thought...but are you Z-zeroing to the same exact spot(preferably near a clamp or screw), and is collet less than 400 hours and not reusing something that has had a catastrophic failure? Doing all cuts the same day? Just thinking what I would check. scott When I zero at the beginning I do it...

Re: Finish Cut leaving a groove
I have a ShopBot that came with a zero touch plate. From time to time, people have a similar problem with the depth being a little bit off. The advice on the ShopBot Forum is to check the thickness of the plate with a caliper to make sure it matches the number put into the zeroing program. the plat...

Re: Finish Cut leaving a groove
I am using wood how ever I'm using a jig to hold the piece in place and I've cut 14 of these all with the same issue. That to me suggests a g-code issue. I haven't read through the g-code yet, but while cutting I have watched the Z DRO and noticed no surprises there. TReischl, Sorry for the confusio...

Carving in Marble Too
DavidWestley a while back posted "Carving in Marble" where he showed off a great carving he had done. I told him back then I was going to make some. Well I finally got around to it. Here's my version.

Finish Cut leaving a groove
I'm cutting some stacked text and vector art. I'm using a rough cut and finish cut on the layers (see settings) image 11.jpg I'm getting a very slight groove (1/16" ball nose is cutting fraction deeper) on the finish cut "Profile cut" and can't figure out why. I'm using a touch plate to set my Z axi...

Re: Array copy
I cheered when I saw the part about .svg import. I use Inkscape to convert black and white images to vector graphics and Inkscape uses .svg by default.lfinsr57 wrote:
Thanks!! Honest, I really did look for that yesterday and couldn't find anything. On a side note that .svg import will be of great help.

Great job! Neat that you created the sign and frame all in one.
Did you seal, cut then seal again before spraying the ink on?

Re: mylar holddown with dragknife
I have no experience with a vacuum table, so take my suggestion for what it's worth. Can you cut the design in a quarter section at a time (four separate g-code files). at the end of each run take a piece of mylar or saran wrap cover the cut out and proceed to the next quarter. Again, I don't know w...

Re: Photo vcarve finish. How to cut and finish.
Thanks very much for the tutorial. I've got to get some glaze to try. I've use shellac as a sealer after carving with some pretty good success, I'll have to give sanding sealer a try. One of my up coming project is some carving on purple heart, I'm thinking some light colored glaze will help the car...

Nice job. I have a ham radio friend I may have to make one for.
You're right about flame polishing, I've messed up my share of plastic with a torch.

Great job!
Thanks for sharing the sign.
I would like to suggest that if you're sharing a file please put you name or at least your username in the Notes. I'm getting a nice collection of shared files and would like to have and be able to give credit where credit is due.

Re: Need help cutting small letters
Can't help you much there, as I'm a straight oil guy by nature, and normally get enough contrast by the end grain soak up. There have been quite a few threads on bleeding avoidance. I think If I were doing it I might try a couple coats of a dewaxed shellac(ZZinser sanding/sealer?) as shellac will s...

Re: Need help cutting small letters
I'm the same as Scott, just used oil to finish & not done any paint infills yet although I keep saying I must try it at some point. Here is one thread to get you started, there are quite a lot on the topic if you try a search on the forum http://forum.vectric.com/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=22620&p=161308...
