Have you tried a two-rail sweep? Make a tiny (.005) circle in the middle, and then a circle the diameter of your nose. Do two rail sweep with "fill center" checked.

When cutting the veneer, did you leave any allowance so the parts fit flat with no interference with each other?

Depth of cut set correctly?

I have this.

A compression bit is meant to give two smooth sides in one pass. This is a double-sided carve, so not the best bit to use.
