Here's a shot of one of the sundials I cut in action. The lines show up better then I thought they would. But I still would have at least painted the title stuff.

Finished up another sign yesterday. It's 12X9 inches and I used a 90-degree vbit. I debated painting the letters and/or the scrolls but then decided that just staining them would give it a warmer feel. Over all I'm happy with it. I think next time I wouldn't go quite as deep with the letters. But th...

I use Avery Paint Mask and I get it from here: http://www.beacongraphics.com/avery-paintmask.html Great place and they ship fast. Good price too.

As for the vbits, I used a 1/2 inch 90 degree vbit for the whole thing.

Here's a sign I made the other day. It's about 9X9 inches. I used paint-mask to color the cuts. That sure makes life easier. Over all it came out pretty good. The wood was warped a little so I was fighting that a bit. If you're ever trying to find a good paint to use, go to any art store and buy a h...

Sundial

Yep it is Corian. If it were for me I would have painted the lines. But the person who I did them for didn't want them painted. In the sun the lines stand out better then they show in the picture. As for the layout I have some software that helps calculate the dial and the height of the style (the t...

How do the bits hold up when cutting limestone? I've thought about trying cutting some but have always chickened out. Is there any trick to it? Or just go slow and keep things cool?

Here are couple of shots of a sundial I made today with Vcarve. I've still got to make the style (the thing that sticks up and casts the shadow) I’ve got one more sundial to go. This one tells you the time and the next one tells you the angle the sun is off the horizon. I joked to the guy I’m making...

DBA

More fun with VCW. This is a sign for a local Irish band. The sign is about 18 inches by 9 inches.

Box Lid

Here's another test. A jewelry box from Germany that was my wives great-grandmothers inspired the pattern. I'm still using that dull 90-degree bit. But even so it came out good. Also I only used VCarve to create it. All the design work was done with the create vectors tools. It measures 5in by 9.5in...

Well more tests today. Got these plans from cnczone.com for a Trex. Came out really nice. Think I might try making a really small one with a 1/32nd bit I just got. It stands about 15in high and 24in long. Would make a good gift for a kid... If I knew any.. Just goes to show VCW isn't just limited to...

To watch this avi you need the TSCC Codec installed on your computer. You can get it from: http://www.techsmith.com/download/tsccdefault.asp

I couldn't pay it at first but getting this codec solved the problem.

It's about 8in by 8in. As for the Z path stuff to quote Homer Simpson "I don't know". I just used whatever the settings are set by default. How would I look and see what I had it set to? All I know is it was more then the bit could handle. I'm attaching another picture. This is a shot of my first in...

VCarve Test Cuts

Well I bought a copy of Vcarve yesterday and have started putting it thru it's paces. Here's the first test off the machine. I used a pretty old 90 degree V-bit so things look a little rough. Also I used a chunk of oak which isn't the softest of woods and not the best selection for a dull bit. But I...
