As an interesting aside, has anyone tried Spiral Graphics free, Wood Workshop" application? Along with the (also free) Genetica Viewer, you can create and export seamless textures as image file, including heightmap images. Pretty cool, actually.
HERE is a link to the site.

Re: New Computer - no LPT port
Hi Jim,
Perhaps the easiest way would to be to buy one of THESE.
Probably cheaper than a parallel cable these days! (Besides, you already have one of those!)

Re: Horses Plaque
Hi Jeffery, and welcome! The horses in the plaque appear to be from Vector Art 3D . They have great models you can purchase that are designed to be cut on a CNC. You can load them into Cut 3D and toolpath. For further functionality, you can the import the Cut3D file into VCarve Pro, to add text, bor...

Re: Is this possible?
I'll often use a 3D CAD program to double check fit and interferences, but a simple solution, since it doesn't sound overly complex, is to simply make one out of MDF and see it in real life. After that, you could even conceivably finish the MFD version, and sell it...

Re: What to charge for making stuff.
what ever you charge.. Use this as a guide. Think about a price.. Then think about it higher and higher. When you start to smirk but just short of busting out laughing over how high it is then tell them that number. When they say yes,, than add,, plus delivery.. And when they agree you say plus ins...

Have you noticed how most people who reply, automatically presume the poster is in the USA? In this case the OP is is South Africa and I do not think he will be able to bring his calipers to Wallmart :D The first thing I look for is where the poster is located so I can give an appropriate answer. Re: Diamond Drag with offset mounting?
Hi Wolfie,
On mine the hex screw is just to change tips or springs. To use it, simply zero it to the surface (manually, since it won't work with a zero plate) and set the pressure simply by setting the depth of cut.

Hi Scott,
I agree that sandblasting looks better with filled areas like Martin posted, but it's hard to beat a drag bit for small text.

Yep, diamond drag bit works very well, you just have to play a bit to get the scoring depth right so it breaks cleanly. Also a good idea to avoid sharp acute angles...

Re: Edge lit mirror lamp.
Jnard,
Looks good!
I've never tried an edge lit mirror, Just out of curiosity, I wonder how it'd look if you etched the back, avoiding the "double vision" look.

Re: Bit slipping problem
Hi Phil, A couple of things come to mind - since it's a new collet, have you ensured that the nut is firmly locked onto the collet? Next - where did you buy the new collet from? Several sellers offer metric collets as SAE sizes, but they aren't exactly the same - depends on the compression margin. H...

Re: Contours
I've done several pieces by simply taking a photo of the object. Make sure you take it directly on (I do it from overhead) to avoid distortion. Have a good known measurement for the object, and scale the imported image to that dimension. Center and place toolpaths over the image. Also a great way to...
