Off Topic - USA Wood Shows

I am planning to visit a trade show in the USA this year and seek the advice of previous attendees. Do I attend AWF in Las Vegas or IWF in Atlanta ? I would like to attend some training for CNC, Corel Draw, Lasers etc, as I am just a home hobbist I am not looking for large production equipment etc, ...

Re: Work in progress my latest inlay

The timber is walnut and I will be using yellow heart for the inlay.
The walnut for this board is second grade walnut which I have now used up, from now on my stock is “prime” walnut

Re: Cutting Boards with Inlays

Hi Gary,
I use Broinwood method.
If you don’t mind spending a few dollars check out his video on the website, after a day of experimenting I am now getting the results that I wanted.

Ron

Work in progress my latest inlay

Just did the female today… heading to Vegas next week for the awards show so it will be a couple of weeks until this board is completed, the male inlay will be yellow heart and should be a good contrast to the walnut when oil and wax is applied. Yes to all the v carve purists I used a tapered ball n...

Timber movement

Currently doing another tray 480 x 400mm approx. The base for the tray will be end grain, thickness 12mm with inlays, this base will fit into slots in the frame 12mm high and 5mm deep and will be floating. My question is how much do I allow in the slots for the end grain expansion / contraction? So ...

Re: Tapered ball nose or engraving bits for Zank inlay. ???

Yes you are all correct there is no way to avoid the rounded corners. Does it really matter !!...unless you are doing large stars of course. close.jpg Compass.jpg I can't get this detail using my 30 deg vbit at the depth I want to carve thats why I use my TBN Just my 2 cents worth... I am happy with...

Re: A simple way to make inlays

Hi guys, It’s not that hard to get “perfect inlays” I know that Steven will give you all the mathematical and geometry of using certain tool paths and bits which I can’t argue with as he is way above my level. My advice is the only way for you to get your own perfect inlays is to experiment, spend t...

Re: Vector Validator

Thank you ADZE Very good idea, will move the open vectors to a new layer and see if that fixes the problem. I believe you are correct about the specks. Re VV showing open vectors…. When v carving aren’t open vectors invalid? The vcarve check box in VV when selected should then show open vectors as w...

Vector Validator

Is there a reason that VV doesn't show "open Vectors" Would be nice if you didn't have to right click and pick "selection" and select show open vectors. I am having a problem where when I generate the toolpaths the software states there are 2 open vectors, using VV or show open vectors can't find th...

Re: Toolpath Color

I asked the same question in the Corel forum.... not possible using images as colour pallets....you can trick it but it is slow work everytime you wish to change the timber species. That would be a big plus if vectric could include custom images in the toolpath colours, won't really help if you are ...
