Re: Guitars - Vectric - Alex Navarro

Ken, if you're talking about the Jaguar files, the reverse sides are in the .rar file. It's password-protected, so you'll need to follow the instructions in the readme file to get the password.

Re: Sloped pocket

If you want concentric rings, the molding path is probably the way to go. The other way would be to manually create concentric rings. I tried doing that quickly, but for it to look any good I expect you'll want a gadget to automate the process.

That sounds like a fun gadget to make, actually...

Re: Sloped pocket

I tried to create the fluting path myself. Here's what I did: Create a horizontal line and center it by pushing F9 Choose the Circular Copy tool and rotate it about the center of the workpiece. I created 200 copies. Make sure "rotate copies" is checked. Draw the outline of the pocket. I created a we...

Re: Toolpath Question

I have a Shark (same manufacturer) and when the controller hits a g-code command to change bits, it'll move the gantry back to origin, stop the spindle, and prompt you to change out bits. I've never used the feature. For me, it's just as convenient to make separate files for separate tools, especial...

Re: Toolpath Question

VCarve exports separate toolpaths for each tool type, so you'd change out tools between toolpaths.

Balancing/area gadget

This is a gadget I wrote for balancing clock hands. It can be used to determine the total area of an object and tell you how balanced the object is left-to-right. Usage is simple: Highlight the object to want to balance Rotate the object so it's balancing left-to-right Move the object so its pivot i...

Re: Clock/Compass array

That's my understanding as well. I've developed a few gadgets. One is for something I may want to craft and sell, so I haven't posted it. I may end up posting one or two of the others.

Even if they never add to the gadget interface, it's still really great to have. I'm glad it's in there.

Re: Clock/Compass array

I got a prompt response from Vectric: They have no plans to expand the API.

It's great that the gadget interface exists, but I don't expect to see any changes/improvements any time soon.

Re: Vectric Clipart

Once you find where the clipart ended up being installed, there's an option in VCarve to pull the clip art from any folder you choose. I've always seen the installer take care of it for you, but if you actually have it installed somewhere VCarve isn't looking, you can always make it look.

Re: Modeling in VCarve Pro 8.5

The nice thing about Aspire is the ability to add my own 3D files mixed with some of the included Vectric clip art. :D VCarve now allows this as well, starting with version 8 or 8.5. It still lacks several of the 3D creation features that Aspire has, but it allows the addition of 3D clip art and st...

Re: Clock/Compass array

Thanks, Adrian. I'll give that a try.

Looking more closely at the API, it may be possible to "clone" a selection, but it won't gain us anything over the array copy function that already exists.

Re: Tab Cutting Gadget

I wasn't kidding about the profile toolpath. That might be exactly what you're looking for. Switch the bit out for one with a thinner diameter to reduce the likelihood of disrupting the piece. Run the profile toolpath to take a single pass at the bottom of the existing cut, which will cut through ju...

Re: Clock/Compass array

Not with copy-paste (limited API for that, too, outside of adding text to the clipboard), but it could be done by having the user highlight the number prior to running the gadget. The catch is that the copies it creates would be vectors, rather than text. You couldn't go back and edit them as text a...

Re: Clock/Compass array

I can create a gadget to do all of this except the "increasing number" part. The Lua API has no ability to create text. I'm hoping the feature will be added someday.

Re: Tab Cutting Gadget

Creating a gadget for cutting tabs is tricky. For one thing, there's no documented Lua API to see where existing tabs are already placed. It might be possible to calculate where the tabs are if they were generated automatically, but then you lose the ability to be smart about placing tabs. At this p...
