Hi Don,
I checked the material and every piece I have tried has been flat and even thickness all round. I don't know how the photo will turn out but you can see the difference between the detail in the left and right side of the claws.

Cutting on a slope.
Hi there to everyone, I have developed a small but rather infuriating problem. As my machine cuts the depth increases from left to right. That is , when my cut is finished, the left hand side is shallower than the right. This doesn't matter too much in some cases but when I am trying to do inlays or...

Re: Monogram drinking coasters
The Plasti bond that I use is a two part resin filler, I have also used a two part mix called builders bog and another product that panel beaters use to fill dents. All seem to take to the paint well and harden with no problems. I make sure to slightly overfill so that I can then sand down to finish...

Re: Monogram drinking coasters
Hi there, I must admit that I machine my own timber down to ten mil or so and then engrave or carve the desired logo. I then fill the logo with two part plasti bond or similar which I colour just using pastel paints. I then give the whole show, after sanding the epoxy down, two to three coats of est...

Re: Thanks to everyone for all help
Mark,
Don't give up. You will regret it later. Mine took seven months before I could get a decent reliable cut to go and I have not looked back since. It is so much fun and sooo educational. You are probably just on the turn when everything will begin to fall into place.

Re: Looking for Toy Auger Screw
Olf, Sorry about the delay in my answer. I finally got to my daughters place and found that I wouod nearly have to scan half the book. This of course would make the size prohibitive to sent. Can I instead give you the name of the book and its isbn. Title: Techniques of spiral work by Stuart Mortimer...

Hi there,
Beautiful work and I can see how it could become addictive.
What size cutter do you use and where do you scource the patterns. I assume it is from scroll saw books
Thanks in advance

Re: Looking for Toy Auger Screw
Hi there Olf20, I can't open your picture so I may be on the wrong track completely. I regularly make spirals in wood called barly sugar twists. Although these are not as thin as an auger they could perhaps be adapted. Anyway if you can't find any other way, send me an email and I will try to scan t...

Re: Perhaps a newbie question, but this seems weird
Could it be that you are setting a zero depth of cut and the machine will not cut any lower. That is the machine sees how high to start but you have told it not to cut anything below zero.

Re: Inlays with corian...what glue should I use?
Very nice Greg. I don't know how it would go but you could use plastibond or builders bog as the inlay substance suitably dyed with acrylic paint. Where do you scource your Corian. Every kitchen person around here either doesn't use it or says he can't sell it to me because of the manufacturer's war...

Houston, I realise this is out of topic but still seems to be worthwhile to post it here, Thank you for your advice, I retuned the motor as you suggested halving the speed and dropping the acceleration a bit {also about half}. Seems to be working a treat. I have been reading posts on cv for awhile a...

Help with engraving
Houston, I think I have a problem. I didn't realise that the cv also affected the Z axis. I finally worked out how it affects the other two and have been quite succesful but at the moment I am having difficulty with the Z axis while trying to cut 3d. It seems to step down as if it is missing steps a...
