Re: Bitmap fitting

I think the point we're all trying to make is that the pencil tracings are an extra step that just adds complexity and time to the process. Scanning a pencil tracing gives you an outline of an outline, with loss of accuracy during the process and the need to clean up double lines. You can go directl...

Re: Bitmap fitting

It isn't really hard to create vectors for this manually - each of these took 2-3 minutes to do. My process is to rough out the shape using a closed vector with straight lines, then go into node editing mode, select the nodes and hit "S" to create curves and drag the handles on the resulting beziers...

Have you created a new file yet? You have to create a file before you can import something into it.

Re: Simple Lid using Clipart

A couple of ways: 1. Create a pocket toolpath that is the same depth as the model thickness plus any gap above the model. For the bounding vectors for the pocket, use the profile vector and a vector boundary around the component. 2. Create a zero plane. Use the profile vector as the boundary vector ...

Re: Setting a different Z-Zero for toolpath(s) for a single given sheet

1. If you really need to do this, then doing it on separate sheets is a good way. 2. I would never do this. My mentor in the CNC world told me years ago to "pick a lane" when it comes to setting z zero to the top or bottom of the material. Nowadays, when I need to do both profile and engraving/pocke...

Re: Dot Halftone

Have you tried changing the pass depth on your tool? You can either do this in the tool database, or in the vcarve toolpath dialog by hitting the "Edit" button next to the tool name. Not sure what specific tool you're using, but a 1/2" diameter 60 degree v-bit has a maximum pass depth of .433", so a...

Re: Stumped on a vector edit

The way I would do it would be to select vector B, go into node editing mode, select all of the nodes in the top of the vector all at once (not one at a time - left click and drag to select the ones you want), right click on one of the selected nodes, click on "Properties", make sure it's set for re...

Re: Relief pattern advice

It's actually slightly different from the version Randall did. You only need one arc to get things started - no need to change direction. The center of rotation is not one end of the arc, as you might guess, but rather the center of the arc geometric figure....I don't know how to explain but see the...

Re: 2D Profile Toolpath issues

I guess I'm confused. I assume the file labeled "cabinet top-bottom....." is the original correct file? It is a closed vector, and the toolpath is running on the outside as expected. It does this both in previous versions and the latest version. The "Toolpath with issue..." file is an open vector. T...

Re: Depth cut changes do not take effect

Does the xcarve control have soft limits? Some controls have limits built in to prevent you from going outside the normal cutting envelope. Cutting into the table could possibly trigger a soft limit. There is usually a way to turn them off.

Re: Can SVG's be uploaded and used in Pro?

Steve - Is there a fixed scaling factor for SVGs created in the Mac OS? The shop I'm working with now just presented me with a Shaper Origin, which uses files in SVG format. After getting frustrated with trying to cut out shapes with it to make a jig, I decided to cheat and do it on a "real" CNC so ...

Re: Beer Caddy(Cutting part away).

It sounds like you're saying you want a pocket rather than a cutout in those areas. You need separate closed vectors for the pockets . The vectors in your dxf file are a bit of a mess...duplicated overlapping vectors, and in some cases they're joined to the surrounding shape. In the attached file I'...

Re: Toolpath issue

Are you getting rounding in the actual cut or just in the preview? When I set preview simulation quality to maximum, it shows me a sharp edge at the top of the raised panel. Sorry for my misdirected advice earlier...I didn't read the problem statement closely enough.

Re: Toolpath issue

Another vote for moulding toolpath. However, to directly address the problem you're having, your cross sections are off at the corners of the frame. While you are creating your 2-rail sweep, if don't create cross-sections at the corners they will often not match between the inside and outside rails....
