It could be your step over. If you want it super smooth it needs a small step. Perhaps 10% or less.
The downside is the amount of time it adds. It's not linear. Cutting the step in half, quads the time it takes.

Re: Which file format to choose
Thank you Scott. that is good information to have.
Is there anyway to convert an STL format to V3M?

Just a little line work. I really like pen and ink drawings. So while this is really an exercise in converting it to carvable imagery
I really like the results. 4x8" on mesquite.

Trucker Wallet embossing stamp - Rated PG
This is a 3"x6" embossing plate I made for a trucker wallet. Rather than just show it, I thought I’d go thru the design process. The subject comes from a photograph #1. The initial model is in #2 and is mirrored so that it will be in the same orientation as the photo after pressing. This was done in...

Brass stamp - sugar skull
This is a 3D (raised) embossing stamp of a sugar skull in solid brass. Even though I cut the back to accept a handle (see earlier post https://forum.vectric.com/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=33919 ) It turns out it still requires more pressure than can be had by hand to do the embossing this had to be presse...

Re: Brass stamp
For the 1/16" endmill I pretty much settled on 20-25 ipm and 2ipm plunge. Speed is 3000 rpm using zero oil with a depth of cut of 0.05". Going faster means it will gum up and perhaps need oil/mister.mtylerfl wrote: What feed/speed/pass depth did you conclude were “best” for your bits and machine?

Brass stamp
hello. It’s been a while since I’ve done any work on the HAAS vertical mill. This is an embossing stamp in solid brass. The test subject was a 2D biohazard sign. The back has been cut to accept both handles from the evil empire. The extra weight/bulk of the brass should make for a good impression. A...

Re: Laser Engraving
I for one have never been able to use it directly. I have a Universal Laser Systems M300. The driver for it is basically a print driver and it works well with drawing programs such as corel draw including 1:1 positioning for both vectors and rasters. With Aspire, even though I can 'print' to the sam...

Re: How to do 3d carving
the Vectric products aren't the only things that can be used to develop 3d models. Daz Studio 3D & Blender are just a couple of free programs that can be used. They are actually animation programs but you can save the model off as an STL file for import into VC or Aspire. The drawback? They are diff...

try converting it to grey or b/w first. gives it less to try to interpret.

Re: My first litho
Thank you. I guess with the right controller we can turn it into a disco ball.
I'll probably stick to white, but I was thinking about a simple nightlight and what a colored film or cellophane might do to the image.
cheers!

My first litho
This is my first attempt at a lithophane. It's 4x7" cut into candlestone and modeled in Aspire. It was easy to do and I'm happy with this first result. The candlestone has a very nice translucence. Now I have to build a lightbox for it to fit in. I wonder what would happen if you stick some colored ...
