Re: Cutter losing its edge
Something must be very wrong, I am getting about 3000m (3 kilometres or 1.9 miles) of cutting on a carbide cutter in 9mm MDF before sharpening. Admittedly that is a larger bit, 3/8" diameter but these are short cuts which are hard on the cutter. I would expect to almost double that distance if I cou...

Great job Brad, looks fantastic!
Just trying to figure how you would hold this in your lathe.... presume you cut the base right at the end?

Another good forum to ask a question like this would be on Woodweb @ the CNC thread
http://www.woodweb.com/cgi-bin/forums/cnc.pl
I don't think you need to register either.

Re: Ceiling panels
Thanks - yes it's MDF with a 2 pack finish, four coats. There is mass confusion currently with our fire regulations here (they ask for standards which no available products comply with etc) so we ignore this and supply whatever the Architect asks for. This is an old historic building, one of it's st...

OK, I'll be the first to say that this is a very basic and somewhat boring job which doesn't even scratch the surface of what VCP can do..... but I thought I would post it anyway because A) the gallery has been fairly quiet of late and B) it is a larger scale project than what is often seen here. Th...

Re: Nesting Problem.
You can move vectors from any sheet to any other sheet. You do not need to copy them to sheet zero first. Thanks Mark, yeah poor terminology on my part, one has to go to sheet '0' first in order to be able to select / cut / copy or otherwise manipulate any un-nested parts remaining on the desktop. ...

Re: Nesting Problem.
You can do the moving of vectors quite easily I believe. After you exit the nesting page you can copy vectors from one sheet to another. If you want to move vectors from the 'default' sheet, select sheet 0 from the 'Sheet' dropdown (sheet 0 is the default sheet) next to the layer selection dropdown...

Re: Nesting Problem.
All fairly obvious suggestions but do you have any duplicate lines or hidden layers..... as in are there any drawing issues with the stray parts? Also have you grouped & joined the individual parts prior to nesting? And are you sure you want to 'allow parts inside other parts' in this case? A proble...

Carb-i-tool have a good one with replaceable inserts. http://www.carbitool.com.au/router_catalogue.html Go to 'replaceable insert router bits' then to page 39. There are two models at the top. I normally buy my bits from the USA but this one worked out better and it is very well built, cost me about...

Thanks Paul,
on point 2 a blunt bit will also use a LOT more power than a sharp bit.

Just wondering how do you round off the outer edges, is it simply sandpaper + hand or do you run a rounded profile bit to do this?
