Re: Moulding Toolpath
As adze said, having the moulding toolpath start at the top is what i always set it to do. In case of up then down I split the profile vector into two and set the starting point at the top of both vectors. Then as the bit take small stepover passes most bits can handle the wood as the steps get lowe...

Re: Molding Toolpath
I think I saw that toolpaths created in VCarve or Aspire could be imported into Cut2D, just not created in it. That makes me wonder if you imported a Moulding toolpath to Cut2D would the icon then appear? Also could that toolpath be edited to change the bit used or properties of the bit being used? 4D

Re: 45 Degree Form Tool
I realize that showing undercuts must be a difficult programming challenge, but if Vectric added that feature I'd instantly throw my "Upgrade me!" money at them. Cutting T-slots, side slots/grooves, and dovetail cuts I did often, and for the most part were the only cuts I couldn't show/preview for c...

Zero Clearance Fence add-ons for Bosch Glide Miter Saw
Got bored this morning and finally drew up and cut out fence add-ons for my Bosh Glide miter saw. Zero clearance fence installed.jpg I've been using small C-clamps and plywood scraps before today, but realized the metal fence on the saw already had holes in it for adding auxiliary fences to. Made th...

Re: Laser Cutting, Burns at start of each tool path
If you can, use lead-ins in the waste area for the start points. The burns are due to the laser spending a few milliseconds to get up to speed before going fast enough to cut through. As the laser is already set at 50% the 0-50 ramp up gives it time to burn.

Re: How do I make a stepped miter toolpath?
Here is a version with the corner actually mitered. Each side is a little different, but 3mm steps and a final pass with a 1/4" diameter 90 degree V bit. Stepped miter joint.jpg Stepped miter ends.jpg Built by drawing up an end view then projecting the edges down to use the profile toolpath for. Unl...

Re: Corner joints for flat-pack?
I have sketched out a few ways to interlock wood at a corner, and each piece could be cut using a CNC. The problem always comes back to what must be a law of physics. "What won't come apart also can't be put together". If you can clamp boards vertically you could cut a simple box joint with holes fo...

Re: Tapering the faces of a flat board on the rotary axis
Cutting rounded corners for cabinet projects can also be done using the rotary axis. I've written up the long story on my blog here: https://4dfurniture.blogspot.com/2023/06/rotary-cut-radius-box-corners.html You can even cut them from a rectangular block just large enough to fit the corner shape wi...

Re: 45 Degree V-Bit Square Corners
Sharp corners are just the V-bit lifting up diagonally at the corners, and can be done with a fluting toolpath using the same V-bit. Useful to know for open vectors where the Vcarve toolpath can't work. Rounded Corners.jpg Sharp Corners.jpg Corners.crv First image just a profile pass on the line. Se...

Re: My first sign…suggestions please
Spar varnish or whatever has UV protection in it for a top coat. As for a font at best I can recommend is to check how far away most will be from the sign when they need to see it. Font size and legibility from that distance are the most important considerations. One of my past jobs was as a designe...

Re: drilling on curved surface with Vectra Desktop
Sketchup, at least earlier versions such as 2008, could export objects you create in it to a 3D .STL file you could then import into VCarve. A barrel stave is a fairly easy shape to model (IMO).

Re: Corner joints for flat-pack?
Do the frames need to be assembled once after being received, or taken apart and re-assembled many times? I ask because if many times the wood will wear over time and the joints will likely get looser after each assembly. You can create a pocket for a square nut to drop into near the edge of a board...

Re: how do i make a channel
Attached is a file example. In it you'll see a cross section view of the block, with the arc laid across it. A straight line was drawn down the 7" side to serve as the guide line. Picked the line then the arc before choosing the moulding toolpath. If the result lines go the wrong way then you can ho...
