Re: Sealing wood

Presuming you are v-carving a flat surface...you can finish sand the flat surface before v-carving, then v carve, then seal with two or three oats of dewaxed shellac. Then fill your letters, and after curing, sand the letters flat.

Re: Modelling an airplane canopy

Viewing tutorials is always a good idea. Keep in mind that since an airplane canopy curves in more than one direction, you cannot model this as a single two rail sweep AFAIK. A simple one could be done with two or three sweeps, I would guess.

James,

That is the best and highest use for a Mayan calendar project...helping a daughter with her schoolwork. Good job.

Re: Just One of THOSE days. . .

Yep, sounds familiar. Recently, turned on my shop computer and clicked on one of the two icons for users...yep, two icons even though I am the only user. I began to tense up when I could not find Aspire or Mach3 on the computer. A feeling of extreme dread was coming on. After about five minutes of n...

Just a bit more info on this symbol...the Ancient Greek word for "fish" was used as a Christian symbol because the individual letters were the first letters of each word in the phrase, Jesus Christ God Son Savior, which translates as Jesus Christ Son of God Savior.

That is seriously creative. Should be in a movie about robots of the future...or something like that.

Cool project, and I really like the finish...but I do not want to encourage the squirrels in my yard.

A cross for a friend

The cross is a powerful symbol for fellow Christians, and I especially like this design. This one was made in African mahogany for a friend. She agreed to finish it, which is always fine with me. The files are attached if you are interested in giving it a go. The vectors are posted below in an eps f...

Re: prize wheel

Looks good. One caution: I made one similar a few years ago, and found it was "fixed", in that because it was heavier at one point, that point always came to rest on the downside. So the wheel should be balanced.

Re: Shop Cabinet Decoration

Hey Scottp55....and all...thanks.

I decided to clip off the border of oak leaves, well because, that would have been just too fancy for a shop cabinet. :D The resulting carving is 20 inches diameter. I used a 1/8 inch tapered bullnose cutter to keep the details bit sharper.
