Re: How to Vcarve Ruler Lines
I used an 1/8" 30 deg v-bit ordered from ebay. Depth was set to 0.100. Yields a line about .054 wide. I like to use the 30 deg bit in situations like this since any variations in thickness over the length of the board don't really affect the width of the cut. The letters and numbers were done with a...

Re: How to Vcarve Ruler Lines
We used a profile cut on the lines for ours. We were trying to simulate the old wooden ruler.

John,
I would be interested in attending depending on time and date. I see this is attracting more interest in the Aspire posting but I have replied here being a VCarve user.

P.S. Port Perry is a lot closer for me but don't know if I would get the full benefit from an Aspire get together.

1. How do you insure that the edge of your project is parallel with the X axis of your CNC machine?
After installing the bed on the machine I used an old Vbit and cut light grid lines in the bed with the router. Just line your material up with the grid and clamp in place. Works for me.

Re: Looks for comments on my first completed project.
I did another test cut, this is 12.5 tall. It really needs to be 13 to help avoid tear out. This wood is walnut. It was cut with a Amana Tools "in-groove" bit. The bit was a 30 degree with a .005 point. The blade is replaceable. I think that I still need to change the font on my name to something t...

You said this is your first project. Is it possible that the Z axis travel has not been calibrated quite right?

Re: Quality v bits
I have had great results from another Lee Valley 60 deg bit. This bit cuts clean on my machine with very little cleanout required and less than half the money of the other.
