Re: Tear out..

I do mostly black walnut and cherry. each project had its share of fuzzies. About 8 months ago i started cutting against the grain and fuzzies are a thing of the past. My go to bit right now is Amana 1/16 ball nose which is a 4 flute. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01AA4M7BA/ref=oh_aui_detailpag...

Re: Finishing Pass when V-Carving

How i do finishing passes but not sure it relates to your question. But for each v-bit i have 2 tool paths. One does the initial carving. The other has a pass depth set as deep as the bit can go, but remember it is restricted by the vector. Then i set a start dept at a tiny fraction above where the ...

Re: Large Wood Live Edge Slab

I have been up against the same type thing before and just eyeballed it. But whats wrong with importing a picture of your slab and size it in vectric. That should give you something to look at. Just a thought.

Re: Making a spoilboard using vcarve

What i do, and i am sure some will shake their heads, and it works. I add 1/4 inch rubber washers under my work piece and then clamp it down. Knowing the thickness of the work piece i cut all the way though it with out touching the spoil board.

Re: Ever have a project that was cursed?

You are starting to remind me of some one and that one being me. Not sure about your machine but shopbot has this. Its their c3 command, which is a constant location on the table. I always work from the center of my work piece. So before doing any cutting, i mark the center of the piece. Then do the...

Re: WaltS your not alone

I am always tightening my clamps during different toolpaths, which may have caused a problem in one of my carving. It was a 3-d plaque surrounded by v-carving on a flat area. i noticed that the v-carving was deeper on one side than the other. My guess is that this was caused by tightening one side m...
