Re: 2 lines from Illustratur
When I import a vector I created in illustrator it opens in Cut2D with 2 lines. The .AI and .CRV files you posted show me that you got exactly what you should have given the method used to trace that image into Illustrator vectors. What am I doing wrong? As I posted previously you didn't set the "I...

crchisolm: The second half of this warning is a clue to the answer for your and the original (from 7.5 years ago!) poster's question. The amount of material left by the roughing bit might cause finishing bit to break, etc. If you are certain that your finishing tool can handle cutting the amount of ...

Re: Editing Setup Sheet in Cut2D Pro
But still end up with the same size photo. its like there is a box around it and it won't resize. Go to (approximately) line 263 in the Setup_Sheet.lua file and find: --search for width attributes in svg and replace with fixed width for setup sheet svg = svg:gsub([[width="(.-)"]],[[width="8cm"]]) -...

Re: Is there an easy way to do countersunk holes?
If you're content with any old angle that doesn't match the one for your screw head then you could use just a random v-bit. For junk plywood and mushy pine that might suffice.

Re: Portrait vs Landscape (X vs. Y)
For some reason the 3 finger rule has always stuck with me. I wish the Solidworks developers used that rule from the start. Having to rotate models 90 degrees because Solidworks thinks that Y is "up and down" gets tiresome. Funny thing though, the rendering engine thinks that Z is up so instead of ...

Re: waste board surfacing
Thanks for the video link, Scott. If I were them then rather than running the cutter along the long axis for each pass I'd run it (and do) along the short axis. My reasoning being that it's easier for the motors to move the mass of the carriage on the gantry back and forth than for them to move the ...

Then the next question would be: do you have a sample Illustrator file that can be posted here to see if others can replicate your dilemma?

If you are countersinking for screw heads and are doing so repeatedly you could get a bit to do it for you: http://www.leevalley.com/en/wood/page.a ... 2240,42281

Re: Two levels of 2.5D carving
1) Do you need the roughing pass at all? 2) If you can get by with just one layer of roughing you could set the roughing tool's "pass depth" to .375 plus the difference between the top of the pocket and the lowest point of the maple leaf divided by two. e.g. calling the top of the pocket 0 and the m...

You could also save as a VRML file (.wrl). This would avoid saving as a triangulated mesh. Depending on the scale of your object an STL can appear faceted in VCarve.

In the help file ( Help > Help Contents ) read up on "Special Calculation Characters". This will help interpret Randall's instructions.

Re: 2 lines from Illustratur
I'm bringing images to Illustrator from Photoshop. Looks good in illustrator but 2D sees each edge as a separate line. They are all connected so I can't isolate lines to delete them. Is it somehow possible to break lines in 2D? Does this mean that you are doing an "image trace" on the image file in...

Re: origin and work material position
which I had drawn in solidworks and imported into cut3d to write the G code Remember that Solidworks thinks that the Y-axis is "up and down" whereas Rhinoceros, all the Vectric products, CNC machines, and just about everyone else thinks that the Z-axis is "up and down". This means that any model yo...
