Re: Start Depth cant be negative?
So, your new material (original material plus inlay) is 0.50" thicker than your original material's thickness ("omt") but you want to treat it as being 0.53" thicker? There's no need to have a negative start depth. If you are using a suitably new version of VCarve that allows creating multiple sheet...

If the file is too large then just images of the settings will do. See my previous posts for what's needed.

Re: 4th Axis Rotary struggles
Looking at the 3D model preview all the cut depths, material remaining, etc. are correct dimensions based on object size, material size, and cutting parameters. As this is your first project the question to ask is: if the rotary attachment calibrated properly? If you try to round a square piece to a...

.Zip file was too Large to Attach/Import Here. Download from Link to DropBox Below What’s really causing a soaring file size is the PNG files for the help system. PNG was originally created as a replacement for GIF files (which was under patent). As such they do well with broad fields of colour but...

Re: Drag Knife Gadget for 6.5?
It may have been built-in gadget but it does’t appear to have been a separate add-on gadget as this snapshot from 2012 shows.

Re: File Size
the first image I posted was merely an example to the Original Poster (op) of where the parameters for cut and tool can be found so that an explanatory screenshot could be made. It was not meant to provide any sort of solution. The 0.001 flat depth was leftover from a previous experiment. the whole...

Re: Homeg CNC - Post
Homeg? or Homag?
If Homag then type it into the "Search…” box above and you’ll find plenty of hit or miss posts about getting it to work. Apparently it aso goes by “Weeke (Homag)” depeding on what the machine model is.

Re: File Size
The original picture image is not very useful. What John was looking for was the .crv file. With that we can check your feeds and speeds for the tool, the size of the vectors, etc. Which could also be seen by posting a screenshot as asked above. I can easily reproduce your 32+ hours. I took the imag...

Re: File Size
It would be nice to see the parameters for the VCarve 1 toolpath and the tool parameters. With any modern version of Windows you can use the Windows Snipping Tool instead of mobile phone. For example (click the red circled button to get tool parameters): vcarve.png There is a lot of solid blue f...

Re: Glueing Inlays
Ron, Do you glue the socket or the plug? Many vids you see show people slathering glue onto the plug overshooting the angled areas and applying glue directly onto the same surface they’ll need to sand later. If you apply glue to the inlay plug you can cover the sloped areas without worrying about gl...

Re: Finished edges on 3D model
Oh, I forgot. Are you sure that you want to use a ball-end cutter for roughing things out? I always wonder why folks don't immediately choose a square-end cutter for roughing but rather choose a round-end cutter. Since the flutes of a round-end cutter come to a "point" that has very little if any cu...

Re: Help With 3d Modeling a New Job
If all faces are the same then I'd say this is a single-sided job that just needs to be flipped four times. The most difficult face to cut would be the last as it's opposite might not be supported well. Although if you make the material overlong it would. You'd just have to trim off the excess mater...

Re: Finished edges on 3D model
Without seeing the model you are trying to import / use it's very difficult to offer any firm suggestions. Can you take a screenshot (you can use the Windows Snipping Tool built into Windows 7+) of the STL file? Depending on the model you might be able to just specify an "overcut" distance when impo...

Re: Cut does not match the preview
Reviewing the picture of the bit posted last page I’d say that it is not 2 inches in diameter unless the shank diameter is 1.5 inches. I expect it’s 3/4 or 1 inch at best.
So, not only was the type of cutter wrong but the size too. No wonder the results didn’t match the expectations.
