Re: Artifacts using an offset finishing toolpath....
I use the offset cut with a lot of my work, with a climb cut instead of conventional. Use the retract, .010” should be enough. Consider using a corner with a radius on the vector square you are picking for carving. Two things will generate the lines, the stepover to the next size (which is a hard 90...

Fence post birds
We are lucky to be part of a condo association near the beach in southern Maine that borders on a wildlife refuge. About 2 years ago, the fence at the back of the property was replaced. I had been making models of birds, many that we see daily there, so I asked if I could make 5.5”x5.5” carvings to ...

Re: Marking gauge in Maple
Thanks. After 7 months of use, I find this gauge is my “go to”. Probably because it was made to fit my hand. Also holds the position solidly. Thinking of making a double rod style for marking mortices in the fall. Highly recommend the kit for this style gauge.

Re: "Harley Saga Tiny" OR "I must be Insane" :)
That’s going to keep you busy for the summer. I’d be too impatient to have to spend that much time on each and probably crop the design so you just had the motorcycle on the fob instead of the whole gas station, since that seems to be the important object. But you will be creating a small treasure f...

Re: "Harley Saga Tiny" OR "I must be Insane" :)
A philosopher once commented on one of my posts:
“ Of course if you're not careful...You'll be "Tweaking" stuff for Production!!
(production is all well and good....but Boy does it get boring Quick!!:)”
I thought it might be appropriate to add that in here.

Re: Mom's "Harley Saga" Ends (Finally!)
Scott,
Great job, looks like the exact right size piece for that carving model. I’ve also been running my 1.5mm at 16,000 rpm and find it doing a better job and lasting longer. Its hard to handle the humidity swings in the summer during a day. But you did a great save on this! She’ll love it.

Re: Piping Plover
Thanks Scott. Wells beach has many nests also caged off with a closed top. I think the wire is big enough for the Mama to get out, but won’t allow anything in. We got close enough to see one sitting on the eggs, right in the middle of the 20’ diameter cage. Seems to be working well, seeing many more...

Piping Plover
Model I created of a Piping Plover. Endangered species that is coming back. This is carved in Ipe and coated in teak oil. Will be mounted on a fence post near where there are many real piping plovers.

Thanks Scott. His wife presented it to him yesterday and he seemed very touched and impressed by it. I haven’t seen any others where the badge has been modeled like this.

Thin Blue Line Flag
I always wanted to make one of these.
A thin blue line flag for our favorite police officer. Blurred out some detail for privacy, but you get the idea. Really loved making this one. Michigan red pine, Maine maple, and as always Made in the U.S.A. Thanks for your service, Happy Father’s Day.

Re: Modeling isometric shapes using Aspire
Just to clarify a bit I am not interested in any particular shape per say but more so the perspective of shapes and models. When I use the word "isometric" I am referring to an angled view perspective, not straight on. I can create shapes and models with a straight on perspective fairly decently, i...
