For 3D modeling and sculpting you would need Aspire. This link shows a product comparison chart: ->Link

Re: Texturing

Get a 1" ballnose bit. Texturing seems to be more impressive with larger bits AND it machines faster.

See this link for an example of how it was used in furniture: ->Thread

Re: pricing my carvings

rscrawford,

That is a great design on the joint that connects the leg to the seat. Excellent work overall. You are producing heirloom quality items.

Re: a wish list item

I'm having trouble duplicating the problem. Let's see if I have the steps correctly: 1. Open a new project 2. Re: pricing my carvings

Here is a starting point:
$50-$100/hr for machine time
$40/hr for hand labor (design work, sanding, finishing)
Add cost of material and consumables (bit, sandpaper, stain, finish, rags, etc.)

Make some pieces and donate them to local charities -- get the local newspaper or local TV news to cover it

Re: .shp back to .crv or crv3d

Unless your tool path was profile on vector the vectors in the dxf will be offset inward or outward by half the bit diameter, so those may need adjustment as well

Re: Not a good fit

Earlier this year there was a discussion on the ShotBot forum about bit deflection. In summary most people were handling it by doing 2 passes: the first in climb direction and the second in conventional. ->Link

Re: Feedback and improvement requests

Daniel, Nice work on your web site. When you say: "modeling the very small and detailed" can you give us an idea of the size, i.e. under 1 inch in diameter, 0.1", or 0.01"? Is this for lost wax casting for jewelry, or is it for small detailed pieces that are part of a larger design that is being mac...
